VOTE 2024
‘Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thank to God the Father through Him.’
I won’t tell you for whom I will vote in this upcoming election, but I will vote for the candidate who best represents biblical values. Here are values that are important to me, as on who believes in the authority of Scripture.. These values and commitments primarily guide my choice of a candidate.
1) A recognition and belief in the Sovereign Triune God. I cannot vote for an atheist or a secularist and an anti-Christian. Our founding Fathers, though differing in their religious beliefs founded this republic on their belief in a Sovereign God. “Blessed is that nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalm 33:12
2) A commitment to the primary role of government, i.e., to estbalish law and order.
Rom. 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.
3) A commitment to a biblcal view of marriage.
Gen. 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
4) A commitment to a biblcal view of gender.
Gen. 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”
5) A commitment to preserving and protecting, the life of the innocent, including unborn babies.
Ex. 20:13 “You shall not murder.”
6) A commitment to biblical morality. All candidates are morally flawed, as we are. I am more concerned about the kind of morality they defend and promote and legislate.
1Cor. 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
7) A commitment to a view of government that creates an environment where anyone can flourish and pursue a life of self-governence and personal responsiblity.
Ex 20:9 “Six days you shall labor, and do all your work.”
Gen. 1:28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
As a Christian, all of these commitments are important. I doubt that any candidate wholly embodies them, but I will choose the one who best embodies them.
